Biographical Sketch of Chao-Hsiung Hsu, M.D., M.P.H.
I was born in Chiayi, Taiwan in
1943. I graduated from Chiayi High
School and China Medical University’s School of Medicine, and completed my
residency training at Taipei Municipal Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and
Taipei Municipal Jen-Ai Hospital, where I was Chief Resident of the OB/GYN
Department. In 1976, I was interviewed by Taiwan Seventh Day Adventist Hospital
and was recommended to join Loma Linda University’s School of Health for a
Master of Public Health Degree with joint training in Preventive Medicine at
the Riverside County Health Department. My clinical family medicine resident
training was at Northeastern Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I also had
training in Anesthesiology at the University Hospital of the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
In 2007, I was elected President of the Southern California
chapter of NATMA, served as Vice President of NATMA, and was appointed
Treasurer of the NATMA Foundation by Drs. Ei Shun Lin and Daniel C. Hsu during
their NATMA Foundation Chairmanships.
I am currently President of the Chiayi High School Alumni Association of
Southern California, President of China Medical University of Taiwan’s North
American Alumni Association, and Treasurer of the NATMA Foundation’s Southern
California Chapter. My NATMA plans
will include the following:
1. I will do my best to carry out a program
in which American-trained medical experts from Taiwan return to their mother
schools for short term Medical Lectureships.
2. I will work on recruiting 2nd
generation members into the leadership structure of NATMA.
3. I will improve the accuracy of the NATMA
e-mail system so that better contact can be maintained between
NATMA Chapters.
4. I will take actions to help chapter
presidents to carry out membership expansion to allied health specialties.
5. I will improve www.natma.org by continually updating the site’s
content with the hope of sustaining the interest of local members. I am particularly interested in
providing more information about NATMA chapters and adding links to medical and
science sites, Taiwanese literature, arts and music, and personal Taiwanese and
Taiwanese American blogs.
6. I will support the NATMA
Foundation in their efforts to raise money for international humanitarian medical missions, scholarships, lectureships and charity.
7. I will call for
various NATMA tours to improve member’s body and mind health.
